Two dead in speedboat collision

Two men died late Thursday after two speedboats collided six miles off the coast of Kaafu Atoll Gulhi island.

The body of the local man - the captain of one of the speedboats was found hours after the accident by coastguard divers.

The coastguard said the man identified as Mohamed Ahmed was found 45 meters underwater where the steering wheel of one the boats was also found.

The other man who died in the accident was a Bangladesh national - who was working as a crew member in one of the boats.

Coastguard had rescued the remaining people in the two speedboats. Eight others were injured in the accident and were rushed to the privately run ADK hospital in the capital Male.
