Colonel Nasheed appointed as new Ambassador to Thailand

Democratic Republic Party's (DRP) leader Colonel Mohamed Nasheed has been appointed as the new ambassador to Thailand, with credentials of designation handed over to him by president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

Colonel Nasheed was presented the credentials of ambassadorship at a special ceremony held in President's Office earlier on Wednesday.

The leader of once prominent political party during the now jailed Maumoon Abdul Gayoom's era, Colonel Nasheed has served as a member of parliament to Nolhivaram constituency from 2009 till 2014.

Before taking helm of DRP he had once served as a prolific member of the prime opposition Maldives Democratic Party (MDP).

Under the tutelage of Colonel Nasheed, DRP has been brought to considerable political potential as it had successfully pledged allegiance with ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) forming a pro-government coalition.
