Dhaandhoo assault incident involves students

Gaaf Alif Dhaandhoo council has confirmed the involvement and limited to school students in the assault at the island on Sunday evening.

The council expressed their concern due to the involvement of students in a violent altercation that left one seriously injured.

A 17 year old Dhaandhoo school student was stabbed on Sunday evening approximately after dusk. The victim received a stab roughly 4 inches deep from a sharp implement by the his assailants.

The stabbed student was rushed to Abdul-Samad Memorial Hospital at Thinadhoo of Gaaf Dhaal atoll for medical treatment. The student has since been discharged from the medical institution.

Further reports reveal the face-off ended with bloody results over a dispute sparked regarding a bicycle.

While the island's council showed grave concern over minors indulging in violence Gender Ministry had also addressed the rise of children involved crime in Maldives.

Offenses as dire as abuse and trade of narcotics as well as assault or battery cases have recently started mounting up which involves underage individuals or minors. Gender Ministry reports a total of 37 cases involving children as culprits lodged over the past three months.
