Japan government on Saturday granted USD2.7 million (JPY300 million) to further strengthen Maldives' health sector.
Maldives foreign minister Dr Mohamed Asim signed the exchange of notes during his ongoing visit to Japan while his counterpart Taro Kono signed on behalf of the Japanese government.
Speaking after the signing ceremony, Minister Asim thanked the Japanese government for their generous support and continuous assistance to the Maldives.
Both ministers noted the two countries as close friends that share a long-standing friendship based on mutual respect and understanding, Maldives foreign ministry said in a statement.
The multi-million dollar grant would be under the Japanese Economic and Social Development Cooperation Program.
Foreign minister Asim has been meeting top officials of the Japanese government during his ongoing visit while the First round of Policy Dialogue between the foreign ministries of the two countries.
