Criminal Court has lifted the travel ban imposed on three opposition lawmakers days after prosecutors refused to formally charge the trio accused of publicly urging opposition supporters to take to the streets in protest during the recent state of emergency.
Court had lifted the travel bans on former ruling party lawmaker MP Mohamed Ameeth, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) MP Imthiyaz Fahmy and Jumhoory Party (JP) lawmaker Faisal Naseem after the trio had escaped prosecution as prosecutors had not found any grounds to file criminal charges.
Police had summoned and questioned the trio on several occasions after they, during a press conference urged people from across the country to take to the streets in protest against the government's refusal to obey the landmark Supreme Court order on February 1.
The travel ban had made Ameeth to miss his grandfather's funeral recently.
