JSC advises to reassign two High Court judges to Maldives apex court

Judicial Services Commission (JSC) of Maldives has decided to advise president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom to assign two High Court judges to the now vacant judges designations at Supreme Court.

JSC is advising to assign chief judge of High Court Abdulla Didi and the court's judge Abdul Ghanee Mohamed as the new apex court judges.

The two apex court positions became vacant when Supreme Court supported the Criminal Court decision supported by High Court on Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed and top-court judge Ali Hameed for influencing lower court judges

The most recent amendment to Judges Act cites that court judges convicted for offenses concluded by Supreme Court would get redundant from their designations.

The JSC meeting on Tuesday to discuss the issue found all of its members coinciding to assign the aforementioned High Court judges to Supreme Court judges' bench.
