A ferry local to Kaafu atoll Maafushi stopped amid trip while heading to Maldives capital Male' city due to engine break down, stranding the passengers on sea.
Coastguard unit of Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has already been dispatched to the distressed vessel to provide aid and assistance.
According to Captain Ibrahim Azim, information officer of MNDF the vessel has been identified as 'Handheygiri 2'; and was carrying a total of 50 onboard.
Passengers include women, children and ten expatriates while rescue units are attempting to transfer all onboard to Male' City via speedboats.
