A local vessel has capsized on the reef of Haagevilla, south of Kolamaafushi, Gaaf Alif atoll on Wednesday evening.
Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) confirms receiving report of the vessel capsizing at the said location around 23:23hrs on Wednesday evening.
Authorities claim they have not yet been able to gain any substantial information regarding the vessel's condition. MNDF adds they are unable to confirm presence of passengers onboard.
Meanwhile Coastguard unit of MNDF has been dispatched to the distressed vessel however, had not disclosed any updates about it.
"Officers are attempting to board the vessel to guarantee if it is carrying any passengers," MNDF said.
Furthermore MNDF states they have yet to identify the origins of the vessel.
