Progressive Party of Maldives' (PPM) nominated running-mate for 2018 presidential election Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has officially signed for the party.
Dr. Shaheem pledged allegiance to ruling party on Sunday night during the ceremony held to hand presidential ticket to incumbent president Abdulla Yameen, who is looking for re-election.
Apart from officially signing to the party, Dr. Shaheem was handed ruling party's running-mate ticket on Sunday night's ceremony.
Formerly a prominent member of the religiously conservative Adhaalath Party, Dr. Shaheem had been the current administration's first Islamic Minister as well.
Dr. Shaheem resigned from his ministerial duties following a fallout with Adhaalath Party leader Sheikh Imran Abdulla after the latter decided to break alliance with ruling party.
Following his exit from Islamic Minister responsibilities, he quit Adhaalath Party on 2017.
