Govt refutes pres' failure to disclose financials claims

Incumbent president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom would submit his financial disclosure report to the Auditor General "soon", President's Office spokesperson Ibrahim Muaz Ali said Tuesday.

Following rumours that president Yameen had not submitted his financial disclosure since taking office, Muaz on Twitter refuted the claims saying that the president had never failed to submit the report.

According to the constitution, every year, the President shall submit to the Auditor General a statement of all property and monies owned by him, business interests and all assets and liabilities.

Muaz said the latest disclosure report was being prepared as per the new format devised by the Auditor General's Office which would be submitted "soon".
