Former Home Minister Umar Naseer and former Local Government Authority (LGA) president Shujau Hussain has announced their respective decisions of dissuade contesting in crunch presidential elections.
The early presidential hopefuls decided against contesting in 2018 presidential polls as they believe the current political situation experienced in Maldives barricaded them from seeking effective solutions to the community in general.
Former LGA head Shujau Hussain alleged president Abdulla Yameen had colluded the island nation's constitutional rule of law while politicians have continuously misled the public. Hussain strongly believed that reform works under the current compromised system will be impossible.
Though the former home minister has announced his decision to step down from contesting in the presidential election he has affirmed of continuing his work in politics.
So far the multi-party opposition's presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and his running-mate Faisal Naseem as well as ruling party candidate Abdulla Yameen and his running-mate Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed had filed for presidential candidacy to contest in the elections.
