Re-registration forms submitted to Maldives Elections Commission (EC) prior to crunch presidential elections have reached 72,000.
With several forms still being submitted the Maldives electoral watchdog has decided to expand the submission window for both Friday and Saturday. Eligible voters are requested to re-register prior to presidential polls if they wish to caste vote outside of their designated constituencies.
According to the commission's spokesperson Ahmed Akram several forms are still being submitted to the commission for re-registration and expects more to be submitted on Friday and Saturday - the last two days for re-registration window.
The time frame for Friday has been extended to 21:00hrs for re-registration form submission while the period will be extended until midnight on Saturday, according to Akram.
Usually the commission accepts re-registration forms until 18:00hrs everyday.
For 2018 presidential elections the Maldives electoral watchdog confirms 260,000 voters are eligible.
