Violent assault in Maldives capital leaves three with injuries

Gang confrontation in Maldives capital Male' City has left three injured on Tuesday evening.

A Maldives Police media official confirmed that three locals were injured in a violent altercation near Maafannu cemetery around 21:10hrs on Tuesday evening.

The victims were rushed to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) for medical attention.

Police have refused to disclose any further information regarding the altercation.

Recent hike in violent altercations and stabbings in Male' City have left the citizens concerned, while Maldives president Abdulla Yameen associated the increase of stabbings with the crunch presidential elections; hinting these individuals are provoked for violence to create fear and unrest.

Last Saturday another stabbing incident in Maldives capital left two injured. While one of the victims has since been discharged after medical treatment the other is still receiving treatment at ADK Hospital.
