Opposition to empower island councils in development prospects

Maldives opposition's presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Sunday said under a coalition led government responsibility of urbanizing the islands will be vested in their respective island councils.

Solih claimed that under the multi-party ruled government islands will function under a decentralized system where every island's council will be given special responsibilities with regards to planning, managing and executing infrastructural and economical developmental prospects.

While addressing the public of Gaaf Alif atoll Kon'dey the opposition presidential candidate described a decentralized approach the best method in the island nation's urbanization.

Solih also claimed the opposition's main priority under their administration will be to facilitate or the provision of all basic necessities such as distillery or water plantations, water and sewerage networks as well as electricity for all inhabited islands.

President Abdulla Yameen's presidential candidate counterpart had assured he will rid the Indian Ocean archipelago of corruption, greed and injustice to ensure prosperity and progress for Maldivian public.
