Opposition MP under house arrest meets UK Ambassador

Prominent lawmaker aligned with the opposition Ahmed Mahloof, who has been under house arrest, has met with UK ambassador James Dauris on Monday.

The south-Galolhu MP tweeted he had discussed concerns about the crunch presidential elections slated for September 23 and assured Maldives will rejoin Commonwealth.

The lawmaker had previously met with the US High Commissioner to Sri Lanka and Ambassador to Maldives Atul Keshap and the Canadian Ambassador to the island nation David McKinnon to discuss similar matters.

The lawmaker is charged by Maldives state for divulging false information to a government authority.
