Opposition seeks artificial beach for campaign activities

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), the prime opposition party is seeking the open and now almost barren ground of artificial beach area for a duration of six days for presidential campaign activities.

In a letter to housing minister Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, MDP said the opposition backed presidential candidate contesting in the September 23 elections has been approved by the country's elections commission.

Adding the local government had assured of providing equal, free and fair opportunities for all presidential candidates to actively campaign ahead of the polls date.

The prime opposition party has requested from housing ministry to provide the artificial beach location from September 13 until September 22, from 06:00hrs til 00:00hrs for these days.

Meanwhile the opposition has maintained continued reiteration that they have not been receiving equal opportunities as compared to their ruling party counterparts to campaign and prepare for the upcoming elections.
