Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has revealed that over 500 development projects are currently ongoing.
Statistics publicized by the ministry show 547 PSIP projects including those in the planning stage and completed designs are currently ongoing. The practical implementation of 152 projects are currently underway, and 49 projects have reached completion. Six projects are currently on hold.
The ministry did not reveal details of the project.
While the ministry has published the statistics, senior members of main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) including former president and current Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed have been posting several pictures of infrastructural projects on social media platform Twitter. Some believe the ruling party feels threatened after main opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) held a massive raly on Friday to kick off their local council campaign. The number of supporters that attended MDP's campaign launching event the week before dimmed in comparison.
