Opposition faces rejection in seeking artificial beach for 6 days

Prime opposition Maldivian Democratic Party's (MDP) attempt in seeking the artificial beach grounds for a duration of six days in September ahead of presidential polls has been denied.

Housing Ministry notified the party about the rejection of their request on Thursday.

MDP had requested to use the grounds of artificial beach for a duration of six days, starting from September 13 lasting until September 22 from 06:00hrs until 00:00hrs for the specified days.

The party was seeking the location as part of their planned campaign activities ahead of the elections.

Speaking to Avas Online Housing Ministry's media consultant Ahmed Fazaal noted the ministry has decided against renting out the area due to the east-coast developmental project slated for commencement soon; the project is handled by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

However, Fazaal confirmed MDP has been permitted to use the Alimas Carnival vicinity on coming Saturday; from 16:00hrs until 00:00hrs.
