Environment Ministry of Maldives have assigned a contractor with building clean drinking water facilities in 32 islands across the country - under government's pledge of providing clean and drinkable water in inhabited islands.
The MVR130 million project was signed with Water Engineering Services FZD to establish the said clean drinking water stations or sites in 32 distinct islands across Maldives.
Environment minister Thoriq Ibrahim bore the signature of the agreement on behalf of Maldives government while FZD's director Mohamed Abdul Kareem-Mohamed Al Dashtee signed on behalf of the contractor.
Under the project RTP tanks will be installed in the designated islands. Twenty five out of the 32 islands will be granted aid under Green Climate Fund for the projects. The remaining seven islands will be partly funded by loan aids from OPEC Fund for International Development (OPID) as well as by state funding.
The 32 islands listed under the project include:
- - Alif Alif atoll Himandhoo, Bodufulhadhoo and Mathiveri
- - Alif Dhaal atoll Kun'burudhoo and Dhigurah
- - Dhaalu atoll Ban'didhoo, Meedhoo and Hulhudheli
- - Thaa atoll Vandhoo, Gaadhiffushi, Omadhoo, Kan'doodhoo, Kin'bidhoo and Dhiyamigili
- - Meemu atoll Raiymandhoo, Veyvah and Naalaafushi
- - Gaaf Alifu Nilandhoo, Maamendhoo and Kon'dey
- - Gaaf Dhaalu Nadella, Hoadehdhoo, Fiyoari, Rathafandhoo and Faresmaathoda
- - Haa Dhaal Kumundhoo, Vaikaradhoo, Nolhivaram and Makunudhoo
- - Noonu atoll Holhudhoo
- - Raa atoll Inguraidhoo and Maakurathu
The project mandates the contractor to complete all workings related to the development of the water stations under a period of ten months.
