Elections Commission (EC) of Maldives on Monday has announced tentative report on administrative procedures for next year's parliamentary elections.
The constituency guidelines dictate two parliamentarians allocated for each constituency with a population of or less than 5,000 people. Constituencies with a population of or more than 5,000 should have a lawmaker designated for each 5,000 persons.
The Maldives electoral watchdog on Monday through their tentative report stated the based on the constituencies registered until May 31, 2018 parliament should allocate a total of 87 parliamentarian seats.
The 18th parliamentary term of the Maldives legislative body consists 85 lawmakers. Elections Commission commented that after revising changes to constituencies, two more seats have been added.
According to the electoral watchdog Maldives capital exceeds a population of 65,000 and constituencies were allocated for every 4,300 persons.
