The new born baby who was found in a bucket inside a bathroom in Gaaf Dhaal Atoll Vaadhoo island was now stable, a hospital official said Tuesday.
The woman had given birth inside the bathroom had put the baby in a bucket before island residents found them and rushed them to the health centre in the island.
Both the mother and the baby had been taken to the Thinadhoo hospital in the same Atoll where they are now in stable condition and recovering.
A Vaadhoo council official told AVAS that the woman had given birth around 7.15pm on Monday and officials had rushed to the house where they found baby inside a bucket in the bathroom.
"The woman has three children from a previous marriage. But she has been divorced for sometime now," the official said.
Police also confirmed that an investigation into the incident was underway but refused to divulge any details.
Gender ministry said it was looking into the incident but assured that the well-being of the baby would be protected.
