Police warn to be cautious in water as tragic incidents increase

Maldives Police Service have warned to be extra-cautious when swimming.

The warning comes after a number of tourists drowned tragically in some parts of the country.

In a statement, the police urged the public to take the necessary precautions while swimming and carrying out recreational activities in water. They also warned to pay special attention to tourists, children and the elderly when swimming.

The police say as the north-east monsoon approaches, the tides as well as the wind are gaining strength, therefore, all precautionionary measures must be taken especially by tourists and those who cannot swim, as drowning is an ever-present risk.

The police are working with relevant government authorities in taking measures to prevent tragic incidents at sea, assured the police in their statement.
