Maldives Customs Service on Thursday seized 1105g of drugs being smuggled into the Maldives via the postal service.
Customs reported that the parcel that arrived at Maldives was suspected of containing suspicious items, therefore, was opened in the presence of the recipient. 1943 pills of what was suspected to be drugs were discovered inside the parcel. The parcel originated from European country, Belgium.
Upon being tested in the laboratory, it was confirmed that the pills were a type of drugs known as MDA (ecstasy), a psychedelic drug of the amphetamine family. The items have now been handed over to the police.
It is not known whether the drugs were imported by a Maldivian or a foreigner. The police are currently investigating the case further.
