President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih departed to neighboring Sri Lanka on Sunday morning on an official visit.
The President will be honoring the Independence Day celebrations of the Indian ocean nation on the special invitation of the country's government. This is the first time a Maldivian president will be honoring the function.
On his trip, the president will be meeting with Maldivian families residing in the country. He is expected to return to Maldives on 6th of February.
The Independence Day of Sri Lanka is celebrated on 4th of February to commemorate its internal political independence from British rule on that day in 1948. The semi-presidential representative democratic republic recently witnessed a massive political turmoil when the hostility between the country's top two statesmen reached its peak in October.
