Pres. Solih attends official Independence Day function of Sri Lanka

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has attended the official function held to mark the 71st Independence Day of neighboring Sri Lanka as the guest of honor.

The ceremony was held on Monday morning at capital Colombo, which began with the attendance of Sri Lankan President, Maithripala Sirisena and the Maldivian President.

The President's current visit to Sri Lanka on the special invitation of the Sri Lankan government is the second official state visit the president is making to a foreign country since he took Office in November. This is also the first time a Maldivian president is honoring such a function of Sri Lanka.

While official talks will be held between the governments of both countries on the sideline, ways in which the bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Maldives can be strengthened will also be discussed.

The Independence Day of Sri Lanka is celebrated on 4th of February to commemorate the internal political independence from British rule on that date in 1948.
