A man drowned fatally in Maafushi island on Saturday.
Maafushi Health Center confirmed a 40-year old Turkish expatriate working in a nearby resort under development drowned on Saturday while swimming in Maafushi.
According to reports, the man was based at the local tourism island.
The number of fatal drownings have increased in the recent months. The Tourism Ministry has begun efforts to identify the causes for such tragic incidents.
