Young lady who suffered a severe seafood allergy passed away on Thursday.
The 24-year old Fathimath Hana, daughter of Dhaandhoo MP Ahmed Assad passed away while being treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of ADK Hospital in capital Male'.
The girl suffered an allergic reaction after tasting a bit of seafood off a friend's plate at a local restaurant. Her companions at the dinner did not suffer any reactions.
It is reported that the girl has always been allergic to seafood since childhood.
When her condition started deteriorating after the meal, she first sought treatment at state-run Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital. She was taken to ADK after her health worsened after buying and taking an allergy medication from a local pharmacy.
