President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced that a picnic island will be established very soon near capital Male' city.
President Solih made the announcement while addressing at a campaign event of main-ruling MDP's parliamentary candidate.
"Hopefully, a picnic island will be established very soon near Male' city with full facilities made available", said the President.
Until recently, Bandos island near Male' city was used as a picnic island for locals. However, the island was later converted to a luxury resort, which prompted complaints by locals regarding lack of island options for locals to travel to for leisure.
The president has pledged to establish a picnic island in each atoll of the archipelago.
