An explosion aboard a speedboat moored in the lagoon of Kuramathi Island Resort in Aa. atoll has injured one.
Police said the incident occurred on Thursday morning around 7.48am while starting the engine, which caused the speedboat to catch fire and sink. The boat sank before the arrival of Fire and Rescue Services while another vessel attempted to put out the fire.
The captain of the launch was injured in the incident, although his injuries were not serious. He was treated at AA. atoll hospital before being discharged.
The police are investigating the cause of the incident.
