Two men have been arrested in capital Male' for attempting to rape a woman.
The incident occurred around 10.55pm on Thursday night, revealed the police. Screaming was heard coming from a guest house in Maafannu ward by police patrolling the streets, who then entered the building to find the cause. Upon inspection, it was identified that four men had attempted to rape a woman inside the guest house.
By the time the police arrived at the guesthouse, two out of the four men had already fled. While one of the two remaining men were arrested inside the guesthouse, the second man was arrested on the street while he attempted to flee.
The two arrested men were 33 and 32 years of age.
Upon searching the room occupied by the group, a bottle and cups containing what was suspected to be alcohol were discovered.
The police are investigating the case further.
