Resident Coordinator of the United Nations and the UNDP Representative to the Maldives Ms. Shoko Noda has paid a courtesy call to Home Minister Imran Abdulla and Speaker of the parliament Gasim Ibrahim.
Ms. Noda met with the Home Minister at the office of Adhaalath Party, while she met with the Parliament speaker at the Parliament office.
During her meeting with the Home Minster, discussions on the importance of political stability for the development of the nation was discussed, and the UN's unending assistance and cooperation to the Maldives was promised.
During the meeting with the Parliament Speaker, Ms. Noda pledged the UN's commitment to establishing and maintaining democracy in the Maldives.
Ms. Shoko Noda also met with leaders of opposing Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM). In their meeting, the role of an opposing party in a healthy democracy was discussed. The resident coordinator also met with Dhiggaru MP Faris Maumoon.
