CP Hameed urges public to refrain from taking law into hands

Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed has urged the public not to take the law into their hands.

In a tweet posted by the CP on Monday, he stated that although he understands that there are issues of trust and confidence in the police service, he urges the public to report crime and refrain from taking matters into hands.

“We are working on to improve. We all have a duty to respect the rule of law”, added the CP.

The Commissioner’s statement comes after two recent incidents in Kaafu Dhiffushi and reclaimed suburb Hulhumale’ where the locals in the community pursued two ongoing cases of theft and sexual abuse.

The public uproar in Dhiffushi island after a safe was stolen from a local shop prompted unrest in the island, where three people were injured in addition to damage to property.

In Hulhumale' city, a 19-year old suspect who is alleged to have molested two children was called out by the public, and a confession from the suspect was coerced and recorded. He was made to walk around Hulhumale’ city in his drawers, during which the police arrested the suspect.
