Maldives elected as Chair of the UNWTO South Asia

Maldives has been elected as the Chair of World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO)'s commission for the South Asian region.

The Maldives last chaired the seven-country commission from 1995 to 1997.

UNWTO is a specialized agency of the United Nations comprising of 158 member countries and six territories. The commissions of the organization are responsible for the sustainable development of the tourism sector addressing
the challenges faced in the sector.
