The Criminal Court has released the 19-year old man suspected of molesting two boys aged 6 and 8.
The man was arrested on 26 May in Hulhumale’ city after members of public had coerced and video-recorded his confession, making him walk in his drawers on the roads of the reclaimed suburbs.
He was initially remanded for 12 days, which expired on Thursday upon which he was presented to Criminal Court to extend his remand.
However, the suspect was released by the Criminal Court, stating that the investigating officer’s statement indicates that no further investigation on the case is necessary. The police requested for an extension stating that releasing the suspect would be unsafe for his life. However, a safe environment is available for the suspect, his lawyer had claimed in court.
