Parliament to determine if top court judges meet criteria

The parliament on Wednesday approved a motion for Judicial Service Commission (JSC) to investigate if the Supreme Court judges meet the criteria for their positions.

Central Henveiru MP Ali Azim’s proposed three motions regarding Supreme Court at Wednesday's sitting. First motion was to investigate the court orders that were issued on Monday lat week and this Tuesday to overpower parliament which was accepted by 69 votes.

MP Azim’s second motion was for Judicial Service Commission (JSC) to investigate if the Supreme Court judges meet the criteria for their positions. This motion was also accepted by 66 votes while one member voted against it.

MP Azim’s third motion was for the immediate investigation of judges by the JSC if a complaint is filed against a judge. The motion was also accepted with 69 votes in its favour.
