5th Tourism Master Plan to be inaugurated on Monday

An event will be held at Dharubaaruge on Monday night to inaugurate the 5th Tourism Master Plan.

Three past and present presidents of the Maldives are scheduled to speak at the event, including current President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, former president Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom and former president and current Speaker of the parliament Mohamed Nasheed.

Senior officials of the tourism sector will also be taking part in the event.

A registry of all employees working in the tourism sector, a special application programmed to ease the submission of complaints to the Tourism Ministry, and 'Beach Scouts' being established for the safety and protection of tourists will be inaugurated at the ceremony.

The 4th tourism Master Plan was inaugurated in 2013 during former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom's administration, which listed special actions that were to be undertaken by the government until the end of 2017. The 4th Master Plan targeted construction of infrastructure specific to the tourism industry, and choosing special zones for tourism development. Under the plan, several infrastructure were constructed, with over 45,000 tourist beds currently being operated in the Maldives.
