Minister Shahid gave incorrect info at parliament, claims opposition

Former Economic Minister and current Maavashu MP Mohamed Saeed stated has that Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid gave false information at the parliament on Wednesday.

Speaking at the parliament on Wednesday, Shahid said the previous government spent MVR 27 million on official trips. He also said the previous administration received MVR 1.9 million in grant aid over a four year period while the current administration has succeeded in securing the same amount within the first three months of administration.

Speaking at the news conference held at PPM office, Saeed said Minister Shahid had given false information on the grant assistance secured by former President Abdullah Yameen's government - Shahid said while MVR 1.9 million in grant aid was secured during official trips, US$ 50 million came from UAE and India.

"What was received from India is merely a budget support. The administration of President Yameen secured grant aid for projects that would directly benefit the citizens. US$ 222 million was secured during 2018 alone by President Yameen. This does not include China grant aid", said Saeed.

Saeed further stated that former President Abdull Yameen's money laundering trial is a political trial. He revealed that details of the trial are being shared with 25 international parties, including foreign countries and organizations.
