JSC to investigate additional High Court Judge

Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has made the decision to investigate High Court Judge Hussain Shaheed.

Although JSC revealed on Wednesday that they are probing the High Court judge, they did not reveal details of the investigation.

JSC is already investigating High Court judge Hassan Ali. Although a request was made to investigate Chief Judge of High Court Sujau Usman, it is not clear whether the commission is investigating the judge.

Judge Hussain Shaheed worked as a Criminal Court judge for a short period before he was appointed as a High Court judge in abrupt move.

While he was a judge at the Criminal Court, he oversaw several cases involving high profile politicians. Shaheed also oversaw Chief Justice Abdullah Saeed's case.

During JSC's sitting on Wednesday, the commission also made the decision to recommend the parliament to dismiss Family Court Chief Judge Hassan Saeed and Chief Magistrate of Kaafu Judicial Division Mohamed Ragib. Both judges have been granted a period of thirty days to respond to the report prepared by the commission's investigate committees on the complaints against them.

Additionally, the commission also suspended Chief Magistrate of Maakurathu Court Adnan Hussain. Adnan has been placed on suspension over a complaint filed against the judge by an individual. While Adnan has been asked to stay home until investigation is concluded and a decision is made, no details of the complaint have been disclosed.
