Hithadhoo North Constituency MP Mohamed Aslam has criticized FENAKA Corporation for not taking adequate measures to address the frequent power outages in Addu City.
After a blackout occurred in Addu city on Sunday evening, constant power outages occurred despite several attempts to re-power the city. While the issues were resolved after 1 am, several residents of Addu City spend the night on the streets. The power outages disrupted the daily routine of the people, while also affecting services and businesses in the island.
Speaking on the issue on social media platform Twitter, Aslam said while a large part of the city experienced power cuts on Sunday night, the residents of the city do not want a temporary solution. Noting that the island experiences power outages constantly, Aslam said he does not see FENAKA providing a permanent solution to the issue.
"Majority of Addu City experienced power cuts today [Sunday]. The people do not want a temporary solution, they want a permanent solution. I do not see FENAKA providing a permanent solution", said Aslam.
It has been reported that the linked islands of Addu City suffered power outages due to an issue in the power distribution network.
Power outages are one of biggest problems faced by Addu City. The residents of the island have been voicing their concern over the government's failure to address and resolve the issue.
FENAKA has revealed that they will be making a bid announcement next month to procure additional generators to resolve the power issues faced by Addu City.
