A massive fire has broken out at a chemical godown in Henveiru ward of capital Male'.
While the fire has spread to five nearby buildings, Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) is working to contain the blaze.
Defence Minister Mariya Ahmed Didi has confirmed that all civilians in the buildings have been rescued.
All affected families are requested to report to Kalaafaanu School, where National Disaster Management Authority has set up base to assist victims.
Health Protection Agency has urged the public not to gather at the area, and advised to keep away from potentially hazardous fumes.
