Noorbaan elected to Bar Council Exco

Noorbaan Fahmy has been elected as a member of the Bar Council's Executive Committee.

Two candidates competed for the vacant membership in an election held Saturday, with Noorbaan receiving 101 votes while her contender Abdul Salam Arif received 97 votes.

A position on the Bar Council's Exco became vacant when member Aisha Sujun resigned from the post after she was appointed as a Supreme Court Justice.

695 layers were eligible to vote in Saturday's election.

All regulatory power related to Legal Professionals including issuing licenses and penalization falls within the mandate of the Bar Council.

Six attorneys are on the Bar Council exco in addition to the Council's President, Vice President and the Attorney General. The current members of the council are former Prosecutor General Ahmed Muizzu, former Makunudhoo MP Anaaraa Naeem, MDP Secretary General Anas Abdul Sattar, Mohamed Faisal and Mohamed Aseel Hassan.
