Maldives Customs Service's statistics have revealed a decline in amount of goods imported and exported by Maldives in August 2019.
Customs statistics show that merchandise worth MVR 3.3 billion were imported during August while goods worth MVR 4.3 billion were imported during the same period last year. The numbers show a decline of 22% in amount of goods imported in August.
The income received by the state decreased compared to the previous year, with the state generating an income of MVR 262 million this August compared to MVR 301 million generated during the same period last year.
While goods worth MVR 258 million were exported last August, the amount of goods exported during August this year was lower compared to the previous year, with goods worth MVR 255 million being exported this August. This is a decline of 1%.
According to the statistics, most of merchandise imported in August were brought from Singapore, UAE and China. Goods worth MVR 465 million was imported from Singapore while good worth MVR 453 million were imported from China.
