Tourism Minister Ali Waheed has stated that 19 new resorts have been opened in Maldives thus far this year.
Speaking at the Tourism Conference being held at the Crossroad Maldives, Minister Ali Waheed said while 19 new resorts have been opened for business this year, the 20th resort will be opened in Addu City before the end of the year.
The statistics report publicized by Tourism Ministry shows that up to August this year there, there were 869 tourist facilities that provide services to tourists: 154 resorts, 12 hotel, 549 guest houses and 103 liveaboards. A total of 47,824 beds are available combining the facilities.
While many resorts are being opened this year, most of the resort that were recently opened were leased by the previous government. 30 lagoon were leased for tourism development during the period.
