Heavy rain has flooded the streets of southernmost Addu City.
The atoll has been experiencing heavy rainfall since Friday night.
Addu City Mayor Abdullah Sadiq on Saturday said the roads of the islands in the atoll have been flooded due to continuous rainfall since 10 pm on Friday night. It has been reported that flood water entered over 50 homes, said Sadiq.
MNDF Southern Area are working to recede flood waters. MNDF said sand bags are being placed outside some houses to prevent further entry of water.
MET office issued yellow alert until 12 pm on Saturday afternoon to southern areas. MET office said Addu city experienced 111 millimeters of rain in the last 24 hours.
