High Court seeks additional judges

The High Court of Maldives is seeking judges for the court.

High Court made the announcement following the Parliament's approval to increase the number of High Court judges from 9 to 11. The motion was passed by the 18th Parliament on 14th June.

The amendment said while current judges of the court can continue to remain in their positions, an announcement seeking judges for the remaining vacant positions must be made within three months from the date the amendment is passed and gazetted.

According to the announcement made by the court on Monday, eligible candidates must have minimum five years experience of being a judge or a lawyer. The individual must also possess a degree in Islamic Shariah and law, and should be above the age of 25 years.

While the remuneration for the position is MVR 36,000, a living allowance of MVR 15,000 and a risk allowance MVR 3,300 will also be provided, in addition to a phone allowance. Health insurance will also be provided as per the Parliament guidelines, said the announcement.
