The govt will not harm citizens - Home Minister

Home Minister Imran Abdulla has stated that the current government will not harm any citizens.

Imran made the statement following recent allegations by the opposition that their gatherings were being met with aggression from the police. They alleged that the police were harming citizens for their participation in the activities.

Minister Imran on Saturday assured that the government would not harm any citizens but stated that they would not hesitate to enforce the law.

While a large number of people gathered in capital Male' city on Friday calling to ban Maldivian Democratic Network (MDN) after the organization issued a controversial report that disrespected Islam and Prophet Mohamed (PBUH), the police obstructed the gathering by barricading a large area. The police also obstructed a similar gathering held Thursday.

Recently, the police also hindered a gathering held by the opposition on a day a hearing was held on former President Abdulla Yameen's money-laundering trial. Some people received injuries during the confrontation.
