Main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has requested its members to refrain from taking part in any activities that may encourage political activities of the opposition.
MDP on Friday published a statement that asked its parliament members, council members and party members not to promote any slogans that can encourage the activities of the opposition.
The statement also reminded party members that participating in rallies and protests, and issuing statements that support the opposition are in violation of the party charters.
MDP's statement comes at a time when a large number of island councils across the nation are condemning the report released by Maldivian Democratic Network (MDN) that challenged principles of Islam and disrespected Prophet Mohamed (PBUH). While many islands are organizing rallies calling to ban MDN, the opposition has been heavily criticizing the government for its failure to take appropriate action against the organization. MDP has previously released a statement that said the party does not support to ban organizations such as MDN.
