400 motorcycles stolen in six months

Maldives Police Services have revealed that 401 motorcycles were reported stolen during the first six months of the year.

Police said the value of the motorcycles reach over MVR 21,796,400.

The police have been conducting surveys to increase awareness on motorcycle theft. The survey shows 38% of motorcycles are taken on instalment plans, and 90% of the bikes do not have an alarm system.

The survey also checked if motorcycles are parked in safe areas and if shutter locks are used. The findings of the survey showed 35% of motorcycles owners do not pay attention to these details.

Maldives Police Services said 264 motorcycles out of the 401 bikes were recovered by the police.
