MVR one bln for the establishment of a diplomatic enclave

MVR one billion has been allocated in the proposed budget for 2020 for the purchase of land to establish a diplomatic enclave in Hulhumale' Phase II.

Foreign Ministry plans to designate and develop a special area to establish a diplomatic enclave for diplomatic missions, as per the protocol followed by other countries to provide safety and protection to embassies.

While MVR one billion has been allocated for the purpose in the proposed budget, the government has already arranged land from the enclave to establish the embassies of India, China, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The foundation of the Indian High Commission has already been laid.

A 30,000 sq ft area will be allocated from Hulhumale' to establish the diplomatic enclave.
