MP Hisaan appointed as JSC President

Parliament representative to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), Hisaan Hussain has been appointed as the President of JSC.

The Thulhaadhoo MP was appointed for the post during JSC's sitting held Wednesday, following Justice Abdulla Areef's resignation from the post.

While the reason behind Judge Areef's resignation is unknown, it has been reported that the JSC was preparing to seek a no confidence motion against the judge.

Justice Areef's resignation comes amid investigation into the judge by JSC for a number of disciplinary issues, including 60 unlawful rulings delivered by the Supreme Court.

In addition to Justice Areef, JSC is also investigating alleged misconduct of Chief Justice Dr Ahmed Abdulla Didi and Supreme Court Justice Adam Mohamed. Both individuals have stated that they believe JSC's investigations to be unlawful, and refused to present themselves at JSC for questioning.
